COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY
Cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, is a short-term therapy technique that can help people find new ways to behave by changing their thought patterns. CBT can help people reduce stress, cope with complicated relationships, deal with grief, and face many other common life challenges. CBT works on the basis that the way we think and interpret life’s events affects how we behave and, ultimately, how we feel.
CBT can help people with many problems ranging from depression to chronic pain. CBT will help you to develop an awareness of your thought patterns and the impact they have on your behaviour. Over time with awareness you will learn to have more control over your thoughts and this can lead to the possibility of changing the beliefs and behaviour which are no longer useful to you.
For example, if someone ignores you in the street, you might automatically think that it means they hate you. I will help you to challenge thoughts like this and to consider other angles.
